"Hard Life"

I’ve been asked many times whether the hard life refers to the cows or to the farmer. I guess it’s better if I leave that up to you. Because of this recurring question I did do a painting of the farmer (actually a farmer from a different farm but…). The painting is Titled “ Joe”. Before daylight Joe was out in that cold, cold barn milking. Up north in those days, that was a hard life.
