“The Last Mountain Man”
I am honored to have Frank Fowler as a friend. We met in the army back in 1955 when we shared a pup tent during Operation Sagebrush, but that is another story.
Frank worked his way through college as a smoke jumper out in Montana. Recently he wrote a book about those smoke jumping days and I encourage everyone to read it. It is titled “High-mountain, Two-manner.” Frank asked me to illustrate the dust cover and I was happy to do so. You can see that illustration on my web site.
A few weeks ago Frank sent me photos of a couple of old fire towers that he was charged with burning down because they are no longer needed with today’s technology and they are a potential liability. I was so impressed with the photos and the accompanying story that I dashed off three paintings. I hope you like this one and I hope you order Frank’s book.
