"The Edge" Early on I learned about edges. When hunting or fishing one soon discovers that the game being sought will be found along the border between one type of cover and another. Around the 1950’s or thereabout sport fishing “experts” began emphasizing fishing “structure” which basically meant anything different in the water. Hell, as kids growing up we knew that fish were along side of logs and next to rocks. But we weren’t selling magazines or T.V. time so we didn’t develop a jargon. Now, when I wander around in the North Woods I am very aware of the abrupt changes. If you have some familiarity with the territory it can be helpful in finding your way. That can be very important because it is easy to get lost deep in the woods and it is not so pleasant to spend the night there with the mosquitoes and critters Recently I have been exposed to a new type of ”edge.” Several art galleries in which my work sold well closed. While showing my work in an attempt to find a few new galleries I have been told that my work isn’t “edgy” enough for today’s art buyers. I guess I need an abrupt change. But from what to what? I haven’t figured that out so I just keep turning out interpretations of the world around me. This one is the edge of a swamp on a beautiful autumn day
