"Warming Trend" On a cold, but sunny, winter day I found this hen warming her rear in the window of the chicken coop. At least that is how it appeared from inside the coop. I actually entered in order to attempt to get an interesting picture of a rooster. Some of you will have seen a painting I did of a very mean looking rooster. It was titled “I’m Bad”. It was so popular that I was requested to do a number of paintings from that same pose. Artists, at least this one, prefer to do the next subject, not dwell on a success. It reminds me of what Hollywood does with successful movies. You know, first there is “Cochise”, then “Son of Cochise” and “Cochise-2 “ and “Cochise Returns”, etc. So I was looking for a fresh rooster pose, one with some character and a pose worthy of painting. It’s not that easy to find you know. I settled for the hen warming her tail. As for the painting itself, I was a little concerned that critics would use the ultimate criticism for a watercolor. “It’s muddy! ” Not that I care very much about such judgments. Besides, the inside of the chicken coop is muddy…and dark and full of smells and extensive amounts of other unpleasant stuff-if you get my meaning. |
